Christian Scientists rejoice in the prosperity of The Mother Church. One interesting waymark of progress is the steady growth in the membership of the Church. A recent check of the membership roll from 1926 to June of the present year discloses that the number of new members admitted each year during that period shows a steady, normal growth. While the yearly increases have varied slightly, it is interesting to note that with the exception of one or two years when the increases were somewhat above the average, the number of new members admitted each year during the past sixteen has been approximately the same. The admission for 1941 was, if anything, above rather than below the average, while the admission of June of this year was larger than was the admission for the same period last year.
The continued growth of the Church numerically takes on added significance when we consider that our churches in Germany have been disbanded, and those in other parts of Continental Europe have during the past two years functioned under great difficulties.
Continued growth in numbers is important only because it serves to indicate somewhat the spiritual advancement of its members and the extent to which the teachings of our revered Leader are being accepted by humankind. It is obvious that were the church as a whole not maintaining a high spiritual standard this growth in numbers would not and could not continue.
