Spiritual revelation and right reasoning unite in the acceptance of the Biblical assertion that man is made "in the image of God." Christian Science, declaring God to be infinite Mind, Life, Truth, Love, shows that what is true of God is true of man, for the likeness cannot be at variance with the original. Thus man is shown to be the reflection of his creator, existing as idea, as the representative of Mind, Godlike in his eternality and perfection, abundantly satisfied, and inseparable from the source of his being.
As the spiritual fact of the oneness and allness of infinite Mind, God, and of man's spiritual perfection is revealed in Christian Science, and established in one's consciousness by consecrated study and uplifted thought, and the untrue and hindering belief in many minds is dissipated, this revelation of true being will be found to be imposing upon the student new views of social obligations and greater human responsibilities, for in gaining a higher and purer understanding of the divine Principle of all existence, the brotherhood of man follows as a natural corollary, and the command to love becomes inescapable.
Answering the lawyer's question, "Master, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said, in substance, as Matthew records, that the first command requires love for God, and the second requires love for the neighbor. He recognized, and the teachings of Christian Science make it abundantly clear, that these two commands are inseparable, and that the only acceptable evidence there can be of compliance with the first lies in obedience to the second.
