"THE INFINITE IDEA FOREVER DEVELOPING ITSELF"

From the December 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the seventeenth chapter of his Gospel, the disciple whom Jesus loved recorded our Master's statement, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Jesus continued to know and demonstrate life eternal by glorifying God and manifesting His divine name and nature. Christian Science proves that man is God's likeness. The truth about man admitted and mastered produces harmonious results. Reflecting Spirit, man, never born and never dying, is eternally governed by the law of Life.

One may catch a gleam of the vital glory and radiance of Principle and its infinite idea through considering the sun and the light and warmth it gives out. Each ray of light is reflected from the sun, directed and regulated by it. Neither cloud nor storm alters the ray, although its light may not be seen from the earth side of the cloud. The ray of light does nothing about fighting its way through the cloud, but continues being and developing itself. When the storm is gone, the ray again appears, unbroken and unchanged.

In this preparatory school of mortal existence the human mind and body are attacked by the evils of dependence on others, of monotony, apathy, and the subtle suggestion known as materially advancing age. Healing for one in bondage to a declining sense of power and lack of joy can be accomplished even in the midst of the most aggressive attack of material sense testimony. As the true idea is accepted, it displaces the illusion of a finite, corporeal mortal, so that freedom and harmony are experienced. The healing of human consciousness by Spirit is the focusing, to human sense, of the rays of infinite Truth, bringing light and health to the individual. Praise displaces darkness; gratitude, distress. One recognizes what has been at work but also knows his power over it, for he is the reflection of the strength, power, invincibility, and essential vitality of eternal, unchanging Spirit. The human concept of man called youth is no more the reality of being than is that called age. As life eternal is comprehended, both transitional states fade into unreality and the changeless immortality of man is revealed.
