CHRISTIAN SCIENCE brings spiritual idealism into the events of everyday life, making the truths of the Bible immediately available. Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 288), ''Science reveals the glorious possibilities of immortal man, forever unlimited by the mortal senses." These "glorious possibilities of immortal man" become ours in human experience as we spiritually discern and claim them.
Prayer and an earnest study of the Bible, together with the Christian Science textbook, cultivate the spiritual sense which discerns the facts of being and man's unity with God, giving access to divine Mind's infinite capacities, making one responsive to divine impressions. This spiritual enlightenment exposes the belief that man lives in matter as an unwarranted deception, claiming to conceal the feasibility of the Father's purpose for His beloved child. Such a belief could not originate in a holy purpose nor borrow the light of divine effulgence.
With the quickening of spiritual sense in the individual consciousness, one begins to realize that this glory of God is spiritually inherent in everyone, a mighty spontaneous glowing of good in our hearts, abiding in our innermost thoughts, and finding expression in human experience, thereby transforming our limited concepts into a better, freer, more glorious sense of being. Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 203), "Spiritual perception brings out the possibilities of being, destroys reliance on aught but God, and so makes man the image of his Maker in deed and in truth."
