"THE ABILITY OF MENTAL MIGHT"

From the December 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS derive strength and courage from the realization that God is Mind. They learn from the practice of Christian Science that happiness and success appear in their lives and experiences as a result of spiritual thinking. They know that God, omnipotent, omnipresent Mind, is the source of all true thoughts, and that man expresses these thoughts because of his eternal unity with Mind. When one is willing to acknowledge God as the one Mind, he finds his fears removed and his days filled with usefulness and security.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 428), "We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material." Those who have experienced this "ability of mental might" have found their store of spiritual riches greatly increased, and have been enabled to prove "the life which is spiritual" among their fellow men.

In considering this problem of right thinking and acting, one may be reminded of the Bible account of Jesus' healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda. Day after day the man had lain in one of the five porches surrounding the pool, believing the common superstition that whosoever first stepped into the pool when the water was agitated would receive health and freedom. Yet his every effort to reach the pool was thwarted by someone who could move faster than he into the troubled waters.
