GOD'S WORD SETTLED IN HEAVEN

From the October 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven." Christian Science gives the spiritual enlightenment which enables one to interpret the Scriptures. The spiritual vision thus gained shows that this verse from Psalm 119 is intended to convey a thought far above any material conception.

The study of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, shows that heaven is not a place but a divine state of consciousness; so that wherever one may humanly be. if he is entertaining spiritual thoughts, he is in some measure finding the kingdom of heaven.

The welcome news given by Christ Jesus that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand" conveys a spiritual fact which is the heritage of all peoples at all times. This harmonious state of consciousness is available throughout eternity. The truth that God is ever present indicates that harmony is ever present and the kingdom of heaven a present fact. This new and glorious understanding of the nature of God nullifies any old fashioned belief that He is a glorified human being, having a limited form, instead of infinite Spirit filling all space, everywhere present. "In him we live, and move, and have our being," declared Paul. It is plain that the Word of God is eternally active as divine consciousness and, being everywhere present, is active in the settlement of human affairs.
