THE RECIPE FOR PEACE

From the October 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What are we doing with today's opportunity? A blunt question this; but with turmoil, disaster, unhappiness, unrest, and war running rampant over the earth, it is one which each Christian Scientist may well ask himself.

Recently a Christian Science practitioner was thinking about an account of a major military engagement as reported in The Christian Science Monitor, and asked himself how he would appraise such a story of conflict if it came to him as a report from a patient. In his experience as a practitioner he had often had to handle similar inharmony in business and home affairs, and here he was being given an opportunity to know the truth about God and His harmoniously governed, spiritual universe in an effort to find a peaceful solution for international discord.

Throughout our Leader's writings we are given scientific statements which, when understood, eliminate falsities and restore harmony. On page 467 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we find these words, which are both a promise and a challenge to the active thinker: "It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established."
