UNINTERRUPTED ACTIVITY

From the October 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is a common occurrence in these times for men, women, and children to find that the usual routine of their everyday experiences has been disrupted. As men and women enter the armed forces or find opportunities to serve in defense activities, great changes take place in their mode of living. Business and professional activities are reorganized or discontinued. The schooling of many students is stopped or delayed. Such experiences call for clear and undisturbed thought on the part of the Christian Scientist.

When Jesus was asked by Pilate, "Art thou a king then?" the Master answered, "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." It is well for all of us to ponder this statement, for it has a direct bearing on the career of every man, woman, and child. Everyone, regardless of his position in life, has one purpose to fulfill, namely, "to bear witness unto the truth." We must bear witness to the truth that God, good, is the only cause and creator, and that creation, consisting of man and the universe, is eternally manifesting the permanent and uninterrupted activity, power, and presence of divine Mind. Confronted with interruption, uncertainty, and change, the Christian Scientist can practice his divine vocation of bearing witness to the truth. By doing this he experiences greater stability and progressive unfoldment of good in his individual career.

The history of the children of Israel, as they wandered in the wilderness for forty years, holds a lesson of timely importance for us in this day and hour. Always, when they turned to divine Mind for guidance and accepted the leadership of His messengers, they found health, strength, and success in their endeavors. However, when they failed to bear witness to the truth and followed the cunningly devised fables of mortal mind, they found themselves in bondage.
