PRINCIPLE AND PRACTICE

From the October 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The earnest seeker in Christian Science is looking for the divine remedy which is based on definite knowledge of God as Principle. This knowledge is of itself authority and power.

On page 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy occurs this definition: "God. The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Using Principle as a synonym for God gives us an illimitable view of Him.

Principle, being absolute, is changeless. It includes spiritual understanding and permits no error. Principle never began and will never end, for there is no coming or going in Principle. It is ever present and always available. It is perfect. It never alters its characteristics or rules. It is the foundation of all reality, the source of "the wisdom that is from above," which is "without partiality, and without hypocrisy."
