My mother began the study of Christian Science when I was a child, and through her unswerving allegiance to its teachings she gained much peace, happiness, and health. Membership in a branch church, since its organization, has meant more to me than I could possibly express, and each opportunity of serving in it has brought me joy, gratitude, and spiritual unfoldment.
The Christian Science Monitor is a daily blessing. Beginning with its' first issue my mother subscribed for it continuously. A certain member of my family, who did not adopt Christian Science, read the Monitor daily, and at various meetings of his own church he frequently quoted it, giving its complete title and adding, "This is the best newspaper published."
I am grateful that Christian Science, as presented to us by Mrs. Eddy, teaches us how to utilize divine guidance in human affairs. I have had many proofs of this guidance. Three years ago I planned to take summer courses in a university in another state. The preparation for the trip did not bring the joy that should accompany taking the right footstep, however, and after praying earnestly to be shown the right way, I decided that for some reason the trip was not necessary to my progress. At once I had a sense of perfect peace, and I have never doubted the wisdom of the decision. A few days later I enrolled for summer courses in our local university and enjoyed the work immensely. By not taking this trip I was able to increase my church contributions for the summer and could serve, when called upon, as substitute teacher in the Sunday school.
