For over twenty years I have enjoyed the many privileges which come to a student of Christian Science. Following the reading for the first time of the chapter on Prayer in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a deep conviction came to me that I had found the truth.
As I began to study in earnest, I asked myself if I would be willing to trust God if illness came to any member of my family. The opportunity to show my faith by my works came a short time later. My eight-year-old daughter one day returned from school feeling very ill, and after being put to bed became delirious with a high fever. With great fear in my heart, because cases of smallpox had been reported in the city, I went to the telephone to call the doctor, but found he was not available.
As I hung up the receiver after leaving a call, I realized that I had forgotten, for the moment, all the beautiful truths I had daily been studying in the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. Right then, I recognized, was the time to prove that God's promises are kept, and in deep gratitude and confidence I thanked God that I knew He could heal my daughter. Returning to her bedside I found her normal and sleeping peacefully.
