In spite of the fact that scarcely a family in the world has been untouched by the war, it is still absolutely true that peace, not war, is the perpetual reality of being. There is no war, no fighting or discord in infinite Love. War cannot be known by the divine Mind or by spiritual sense. Only the idolatrous material senses, or what is termed the carnal mind, can take cognizance of war.
Truth excludes error as effortlessly as light excludes darkness. Truth is light. Right through the black darkness of the cruelty of war is shining undimmed the light of Love. It is never extinguished. It goes on shining forever, and its light is reflected in the brave deeds and the uncomplaining heroism of men and women who are laying down their material sense of life for the good of mankind. The light of Love will ultimately awaken everyone to the consciousness of its life-giving beauty and the brightness of its strength.
The tremendous moral upheaval, which now appears as global war, may be greatly shortened by the faithful prayers of those who acknowledge God as the supreme power, and who realize the significance of Mary Baker Eddy's words in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 223), "Marvels, calamities, and sin will much more abound as truth urges upon mortals its resisted claims." Never before has the truth of being been seen by so many as today, yet those whose eyes are open are few indeed in consideration of what is to be accomplished. Nevertheless it is not numbers that count in the final victory, for one intelligent declaration of Truth far outweighs a thousand erroneous assumptions. It is written, "One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one."
