GENESIS

From the September 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the beginning God created all,
Evolved by infinite, omniscient Mind,
Whose manifold ideas, great and small,
Their permanence in heavenly mandate find.

Dear wanderer in void and formless night,
Have you not heard God's voice, and understood
The imperative command, "Let there be light"?
That light is constant, all-availing good.

Does vaunting error urge its vain pretense
That shadows hide from view the upward way?
Yet Truth divides reality from sense—
As God has spoken, thus it is today.

Then scale the mountain-steeps with joyful praise
And falter not, nor challenge wisdom's rod;
Lo, from the summit burst effulgent rays,
Revealing man the image of his God.
