Testimonies of Healing

For some time I have felt impelled...

From the September 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some time I have felt impelled to express my gratitude for all the good I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. It was through witnessing the beautiful healing of a friend that I was led to this glorious truth. For many years I had suffered constantly from stomach trouble and extreme nervousness. After visiting nerve and stomach specialists, I was told by one that my stomach had fallen, and that only by lying flat on my back with the lower end of the bed raised several inches could I ever hope to remedy this condition. I followed his advice and then wore a very tight surgical belt. After much discouragement and prolonged suffering I was led to call my friend and inquire more about her healing.

I shall never forget my first visit to a Christian Science practitioner and the hope that sprang up within me. My thought was lifted to the mountaintop when I learned that this condition was not from God, and therefore it did not have to continue. Very lovingly I was reminded of what it says in Genesis: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." I was told it was right for me to be active, and because I reflected dominion I could resume my teaching, which I had given up for more than two years. I visited the practitioner on a Friday, and the following Monday went back to school, completely healed.

For over seventeen years I have been able to prove this wonderful truth, and to be in my rightful place each day. Often the words of our beloved Leader came to me (Science and Health, p. 381): "Think less of the enactments of mortal mind, and you will sooner grasp man's God-given dominion." I am not only grateful to have been able to teach all these years, but also for the change that has taken place in my thinking. The steady unfoldment of Truth in my consciousness is enabling me to work out the many problems which present themselves in a busy classroom of small children, and is helping me each day to see the children more and more as God sees man.
