In June, 1938, while I was out riding with my niece, we met with an automobile accident, in which the car was overturned. I was taken unconscious to a hospital, where my condition was found to be very serious.
When I came to, I asked my niece to call a Christian Science practitioner, for treatment. When the practitioner arrived, the doctor who was in charge gave permission for me to be taken home. I had received various injuries, the most serious being two fractures of the head, five broken ribs, a fractured kneecap, and the jawbone thrown out of place. Though I was badly hurt, I was conscious of a sense of well-being and of confidence in relying entirely on Christian Science for help. My attention was arrested by the practitioner's statement, "There are no accidents in the divine Mind."
The next day, the jawbone had returned to its place. A doctor had been called to strap my side, and he said that I should stay in bed four weeks. I stayed in bed three days, and in two weeks I was at the Wednesday evening testimony meeting, praising God for my healing. I am grateful to Mary Baker Eddy, for her wonderful vision which brought this blessed Science to the world. There have been none of the aftereffects which usually follow such an accident.
