Many young people today are called upon to serve in the armed forces of their country. Often this means separation from home and loved ones, or the interruption of a promising college or business career. The young Christian Scientist is well equipped to meet this emergency, for he knows that every problem is an opportunity to prove the allness of God. Frightened human sense would present a fearful picture of disappointment, of loneliness, of fear, of inadequacy. But this is only a picture painted on the canvas of mortal mind by mortal sense testimony. It is not a fact of existence, for existence is the reality of spiritual good, not a picture of material evils.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 95) we find the statement, "Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth." Christian Science presents a positive rule with which false pictures may be erased as surely, and with as much poise, as one would go to the blackboard, erase a wrong answer, and write the correct one.
The picture of human separation can be erased and replaced with the understanding that all the unity there ever has been is the spiritual unity of all right ideas in the one Mind, and this unity is indestructible, unaffected by any false sense of creation involving separation. The argument of an interrupted career, or education, can be replaced by the understanding that there is only one law, the law of God, and this law is a law of progress; therefore, man's activity must reflect neither retrogression nor interruption, but opportunity and progress. This lifting of thought above sense testimony into the realm of reality acts as a law of elimination to the evils of sense testimony, for this testimony exists only in belief, and in the degree belief in it is destroyed it ceases to be.
