THE LESSON-SERMON

From the June 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"How do these truths apply to my problems or to the world? What is there in this very familiar citation which I have not yet fully grasped?" The Christian Scientist approaching his study of the Lesson-Sermon with these questions in mind will find his reading to be vital and meaningful. No false sense of routine, no lack of inspiration, can vitiate the thought which turns in alertness and gratitude to the Bible and to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for daily bread. And progress in understanding, with accompanying demonstration, surely follows.

Frequently one hears or makes the remark, "This section of the Lesson seems just made for me; it contains the answer to my problem;" or, "How helpful the Lesson is this week; it is like a Christian Science treatment for the whole world."

An illustration of the applicability of the Lesson-Sermon to everyday thought and living occurred to one student at a time when the section of the country in which she resided had received an undue amount of rainfall. The greatest flood in nearly a hundred years was inundating fields and towns along three rivers. Day after day was gray and cloudy, and for several weeks the rain continued to fall.
