THE CHRISTIAN'S CAUSE

From the June 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We fight not for new lands, nor plundered wealth,
Nor to inflict on others some strange plan;
We seek to bring to light the heritage of man.
Man has the right to wisdom; the one Mind,
Speaking the Word, created all to be
Its imaged likeness, good and wise and free.
And God is Spirit; man then has the right
To omnipresent being, with no fear
Of any other presence, now or here.
And, also, God is Soul. Should not men seek
To mirror forth perfection, beauty, peace—
True harmony that nevermore shall cease?
All these the one God, Principle, confers.
Man's heritage cannot be set aside;
In it all must eternally abide.
Man has the right to life, for God is Life;
No false decree of death can interfere
With Life eternal, living now and here.
Man has the right to truth, for God is Truth,
And Truth affirms the presence of all good
To be revealed, attained, and understood.
Man has the right to love, for God is Love;
No hatred comes from Him to touch His man,
Or harm the workings of His perfect plan.

For this we fight, this heritage of man.
Not hatred of the wrong will make us strong,
But in the love of right shall be our might.
