The way out of these difficulties is not found by wishful thinking; rather is it found in the ever-available law of God, that eternal law which knows no beginning or ending, and is incapable of failure. This law was revealed to Mary Baker Eddy. She proved it to be demonstrable and entirely practical, and she named her discovery thereof Christian Science. There is nothing new about the law of God, and there is nothing new about Christian Science.
All down the centuries this great spiritual law has been glimpsed by spiritually-minded individuals. Moses healed his sister and himself of leprosy. The children of Israel, under Moses, were safely guided through the Red Sea when all hope of escape appeared to be lost. Joshua, Elijah, Elisha, and others knew of this law of God and utilized it. These occasional glimpses of God's presence and the liberating power of His law burst into such complete brilliance in the matchless ministry of Christ Jesus that never again should mankind have had to walk in spiritual darkness. And yet, in spite of the fact that Jesus demonstrated the ever-availability of the Christ, the world continued in the mesmerism of materiality, of sensuality and wickedness. In this maze of materiality mankind not only failed to see God as Supreme Lawgiver, but it also turned its back on Him as the great Physician. Like Asa of old, it took what it thought was an easier way and "sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians." The search for healing in matter has not proved any more successful in countless cases since his time than it did for him.
