The progressive thinker instructed in Christian Science knows that the one need of humanity is spiritual enlightenment, a clear understanding of the nature of God and His creation and the futility and nothingness of evil. It is of paramount importance that men should realize that the arena where every conflict with evil is fought and finally won is in individual thinking. When all men turn their desire, their trust, and their expectancy from the material to the spiritual, wars, disasters, sickness, and poverty will vanish, and universal freedom will be seen to be a divine ultimatum.
Is one held as it were in the iron grip of fear, disease, lack, or any one of the myriad forms of evil? He should not give up the good fight. His determination to gain dominion should be inspired by genuine humility and righteous motives. God is ever waiting to bless and never fails to bless every righteous effort. As one regulates his thinking and living by the teachings of Christian Science, his freedom from material conditions or beliefs will be commensurate with his scientific understanding.
Gratitude fills the writer's consciousness when her thought is carried back to an experience which brought not only a definite spiritual awakening, but also a physical healing. She had been troubled for several years with a stomach disorder which had become acute. Earnest Christian Science practitioners had given her much of their loving help, but this condition had not yielded to their treatment. And she became tormented with the fear of a disease pronounced incurable by many medical practitioners.
