Testimonies of Healing

"Oh that men would praise the Lord...

From the January 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing," sings the Psalmist (Ps. 107:21, 22). It is with rejoicing that I declare the works that the Lord has done for me and mine.

In our family of three children, I have seen many diseases healed through the application of Christian Science. Among them were whooping cough, croup, toothache, cholera morbis. a growth on a child's forehead, and pneumonia. Scarlet fever and measles were healed within twenty-four hours without any aftereffects. I felt more fear in the case of scarlet fever, and it was necessary for me to work until early morning before I could overcome this fear and understand the allness of God, Love. The final conviction came when I read these words of Mrs. Eddy's (Science and Health, p. 412): "The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death." Knowing that Mrs. Eddy made no statement that was not provable, I was able to go to bed and sleep, although the material appearances were the same. In the morning when we awoke every vestige of the disease had gone, and the child was happy and free. He needed no period of convalescence, but played as usual except for a greater sense of joy and contentment.

Chronic tonsillitis was overcome when we were very new in Christian Science by the assurance given in the one hundredth Psalm, especially the verse which reads: "Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." The child arose from his bed shortly after we pondered this verse, and a few hours later he asked if he might take a shower bath with the garden hose, as the neighborhood boys were doing. At first I was horrified with the idea, but I realized that if all I had been declaring was true, there could be no ill effects from such sport, even if it were a crisp May morning. The healing was complete. There have been no symptoms of the disease in the fifteen years that have passed since then. The same boy was healed at the age of ten of the desire for smoking. He has since gone through high school, attended college, and spent two years in the armed forces, and has had no return of the desire.
