RECEPTIVITY

From the January 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus had let the disciples go,
As he stayed behind to pray;
Alone they started to toil and row
The boat on their homeward way.

The night was dark and the waves were high
As their way they slowly made,
When, lo, their teacher and friend drew nigh:
"It is I; be not afraid."

Gladly they took him into the ship,
And, their human effort spent,
Saw the mighty power of God outstrip
Time, distance, and element.

May we too see, as we toil and row,
Christ walking upon the sea,
Willingly take him on board—and so
At our destination be.

Within the limits of human mind
Achievements are slowly won.
Accepting the Christ-idea, we find
God's work is already done.
