Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science came to me at a...

From the February 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came to me at a time of great trouble and unemployment. The friend who presented Science to me said that it would help me to secure employment, and I was therefore ready to accept this help at once. I procured the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the following day and began to read it. A practitioner recommended that I study articles in our periodicals on "giving" in working out this problem, so for many months I visited the Reading Room to do this, and endeavored to put into practice what I read. Finally I took a position at a very small salary in order to give service and gain experience. After a few weeks, a very fine position was offered me without solicitation, and I have had the highest types of positions ever since.

About two years ago, I was faced with the problem of disposing of a house that was considered difficult to sell on account of its location. It was a comfortable house with many good features, and I knew that it would bless someone. I placed a "for sale" sign in a window, and in four days the house was sold for cash at my original price. The woman who purchased it said it was the answer to her prayers, for she had been seeking a home for her daughter and several grandchildren.

Several years ago, as a result of worry and a false sense of responsibility, I had a nervous breakdown. I was so ill that I could not leave my bed, and I did not think I should recover. After working for me for three weeks, with no apparent change in my condition, the practitioner told me to have no fear but to rejoice and sing hymns. This seemed impossible under the circumstances, and fear filled my thought for a few minutes. However, I desired to be obedient, so I attempted to get up, but failed. The next day I tried it again, and succeeded in singing and playing hymns for about an hour, gaining strength as I continued. I repeated this each day, and after four days was able to return to work. The complete healing was not accomplished for a considerable length of time on account of fear, but through the loving help of a practitioner I was able to continue working, and did not lose any time after that on account of this condition. The experience was a severe trial, but proved to be an opportunity for much growth in Christian Science.
