"THE TRINITY NO MAN CAN SUNDER"

From the February 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In her definition of God on page 465 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy has named seven synonyms, three of which are Life, Truth, and Love. She says, "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." On the same page she says of these synonyms: "They refer to one absolute God. They are also intended to express the nature, essence, and wholeness of Deity." How could one more profoundly express the all-inclusiveness of divine being? The question of the ages, Where and what and who is God? is answered in this definition.

Mrs. Eddy perceived the influence of the understanding of these synonyms as powerful beyond the finite human mind's conception. She saw humanity's great need for their spiritual unfoldment, and endeavored on almost every page of her writings to impart what she understood of their power to establish in human consciousness intelligence, health, and harmony. She had proved this power and desired to share with others the certainty that the spirit of Truth, Life, and Love, entertained, does bring into human lives energies and capacities beyond common expectation.

In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 185) Mrs. Eddy gives us a convincing statement regarding these synonyms. She writes: "Truth, Life, and Love are formidable, wherever thought, felt, spoken, or written,—in the pulpit, in the court-room, by the wayside, or in our homes. They are the victors never to be vanquished." She adds, "Love formed this trinity, Truth, Life, Love, the trinity no man can sunder." These words express intensity of thought and action, and, best of all, they have practical value.
