WHAT UNMAKES POVERTY?

From the February 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An earnest student of Christian Science was faced with the problem of lack of supply. She found herself embarrassed and unhappy, without money to pay her legitimate bills, and even money due for work done was unaccountably withheld. It seemed that working for a living, as it is called, left no time for "living,'" no money for needful supplies, and not enough leisure and strength for refreshment and recreation.

The student prayed earnestly for healing. She saw that specific, constructive mental work in Christian Science was necessary in order that she might gain the solution of the problem and live in accord with the truth about God and man.

Her first human footstep consisted in giving up the use of her charge accounts, for she was determined not to buy anything on the strength of someone's promise to pay amounts due her. She knew that her desire to be strictly honest would enable her to resist the temptation to buy what she had not money in her hand to pay for. She prayed that she might be kept serene and confident, knowing that in the Father's house, where man dwells continually, she already had all supply. She worked to prove that her human needs, whatever they might be, Love would meet.
