"WOMAN GOES FORTH"

From the February 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At this moment of world history we have reached a cessation of war and bloodshed and stand upon the threshold of a new era. We may ask ourselves, "What are we going to do about it?" With the light which Christian Science sheds upon the situation we can see that the warfare has not been just one between nations, with the clash of steel armaments, but rather one between the flesh and Spirit. This warfare, therefore, does not cease when the roar of cannon is no more heard, or when swords are again melted into plowshares.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 559): "The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.' It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. It arouses the 'seven thunders' of evil, and stirs their latent forces to utter the full diapason of secret tones. Then is the power of Truth demonstrated,—made manifest in the destruction of error."

We can see in this statement that the reason why war was not prevented, was not that our prayers were unavailing, nor that they had failed, but that the world has been reaping the tares which it has sown, the punishment of its own sins. St. Paul stated, "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." The errors or sins of the world have been brought to the surface in this World War to be destroyed by "the power of Truth demonstrated." God's law of adjustment is inexorable. None can hinder its operation. The only thing we can do is to bring ourselves into harmony with it and establish ourselves under its beneficent sway.
