Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

For the many blessings bestowed upon...

From the February 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For the many blessings bestowed upon me by our omnipotent Father in His boundless goodness, I cannot be sufficiently grateful, particularly for the fact that He led me to Christian Science, which has become a shining light in my life. "The darkest hour precedes the dawn." This statement is one that I should like to cry aloud to all who are awaiting the hour of light, the discernment of the truth that makes free, as I was made free.

It is a joy to share one of the blessed experiences which I have had in Christian Science. Somewhat after the birth of my second child there occurred a severe inflammation of the breast, which after a short time developed into blood poisoning. The pain which I endured was intense. As a student of Christian Science I trusted absolutely in our Father-Mother God, knowing that man is His image and likeness; but my husband, who did not understand Christian Science at that time, called a physician in his fear, believing that this was a case only for prudent medical assistance. However, neither the physician nor any of his prescribed remedies brought any relief. The pain became almost more than I could endure, and I realized only God could help me. The doctor and nurse, knowing that I was a Christian Scientist, said that I was causing them great concern, and that without an operation I could not expect to be healed. One evening the physician told my husband to be prepared for the worst, that he had done all in his power to save me, and that I had only a few days to live.

My husband was quite changed when he came to my bedside and asked what we should do. In complete confidence I replied that God would help us. I asked him to call a Christian Science practitioner, and this he did. Now the way was prepared and open. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." The comforting, healing words of the practitioner were as balm to my wounds. After a few days the specter of death was destroyed by the understanding of Life which is God. Soon thereafter I was able to be up and resume my housework.
