Over a period of many years I have been helped and encouraged through the reading of the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals. Many times I have felt the desire to testify to the healing, regenerative, and protective power of Christian Science in my own life.
One of my first healings in Christian Science was brought about through repeating silently "the scientific statement of being," as given by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, on page 468 of the textbook, Science and Health. I had just memorized this statement in obedience to the wishes of a practitioner. At times I used to be stricken with acute pain in the abdomen, and at such times, previous to my learning of the truth, was given a remedy by my father, who was a druggist, to allay the severe suffering. After learning of Christian Science I decided to test it by putting into practice what I knew of Truth. I felt that I did not fully understand the statement I was repeating, but nevertheless I started to repeat it. When I was about halfway through, the pain ceased so abruptly that it amazed me. I have never had a recurrence of this trouble.
A short time after this I had a beautiful healing of quinsy through absent treatment by a practitioner. This healing took place between the hours of two and seven in the morning and was so thorough that I arose at the usual time, ate my breakfast, and went to work as usual at the office where I was employed. I have been especially grateful for this demonstration because all my life I had suffered intermittently from severe throat difficulties. During the past twenty years I have been entirely free from this form of discord.
