It is a number of years since I had my first healing, an almost instantaneous one, through the power of Christian Science. Before becoming acquainted with Science, as Mrs. Eddy has presented it to the world through her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other writings, I considered myself opposed to its teaching, and was also critical of its Discoverer and Founder.
The healing came one month after the normal birth of my first child. The birth surprised the physician because two other physicians had said that, having been delicate since childhood, I should not bear children; but I trusted God that it could be done.
Two weeks after the birth extreme weakness set in, and I experienced two sinking spells. As I felt a third approaching, I summoned a sister, who had been studying Christian Science for about two years, and asked her where in the Bible she would read if she felt as weak as I did. Immediately she began to quote the first verse of the ninety-first Psalm, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." She left my side, and I was alone with those beautiful healing words. The next morning I was up and able to move about. I was willing to listen to the quotation from the Bible, but wanted nothing to do with any explanation that might be given by Mrs. Eddy in her writings. I had previously asked my sister never to discuss Christian Science with me, and she had made no attempt to do so.
