For more than twenty years Christian Science has been a sustaining, healing, and practical religion to me and my family. It has been my joyful privilege to witness many proofs of God's ever-presence, but one experience taught me the true meaning of prayer.
For many years there had been a cyst on the back of my neck, and although it was annoying at times, for the most part it remained in a dormant state. One day while I was doing metaphysical work on daily supply, the realization came very strongly to me that I should take a definite stand to see myself as God's perfect idea. In thinking along these lines I realized that God's man could not entertain one vestige of error, and that therefore this so-called cyst which I had been tolerating so many years should be eliminated from my consciousness and thus disappear. I turned for help and guidance to a Christian Science practitioner. Work was taken up, and it was pointed out to me that co-operation and obedience were very necessary on my part. I humbly turned to God and faithfully studied truths as set forth by the practitioner.
Soon error began to talk back; it roused itself from its dormant state, and the cyst began to fester and protrude noticeably on the back of my neck. Well-meaning friends and business associates advised me to have it operated on, warning me of what might occur if it were not attended to. Fear tried to creep into my thought, but the perseverance of the Christian Science practitioner helped me to cling to the truth. Whenever I could get away alone I would turn to God in prayer for guidance. One day at the office the company doctor noticed the growth and told me that the only way it could be removed was by a surgical operation. This fearsome suggestion was dispelled by the realization that the only operation possible is the operation of Love and Truth.
