For some time I have felt that I should express gratitude for Christian Science through our periodicals. Previous to the time that I began to study Science I faced each new year of teaching with the question, "Will there be enough sick leave days for me for the school term?" In 1924 I was teaching in an eastern city. Because of ill-health I was given a year's leave of absence from my work. I went to the West Coast, thinking that it might help me.
A number of times I had been asked why I did not try Christian Science, and after reaching the coast I was presented with the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I began to read and study and, although the way seemed long and hard, with the help of a practititioner I was able to teach again in the West.
I do not remember being absent a day from my work after the first year. There were days when I worked and clung steadfastly to Truth, but I stayed at my work and eventually the healing was complete.
