"Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 79). I have long wished to express through the periodicals my gratitude for my original healing in Christian Science which came about through my reading the above-named textbook. I had never been very strong as a child, and all through girlhood I experienced poor health. I had reached the stage where I had no faith in material means for healing and had drifted away from my former church, as nothing seemed to meet my need.
While rooming in the home of a Christian Scientist and suffering severely from chronic bronchitis, a stomach and bowel disorder, headaches, and extreme nervousness, I decided as a last resort to try Christian Science and asked my landlady if I might borrow her book. She gave me a copy of The Christian Science Monitor to read while she went for a copy of Science and Health. After looking through the paper, I lost some of my antagonism for what I supposed Christian Science to be.
When I started reading Science and Health, I very soon knew it was all true and according to Scripture, and I thought if I could only be healed I would devote my life to helping others find this truth. Immediately the words came to me, "You are healed." Not a vestige of the cough, fever, headache, and other physical inharmonies remained. Also, the fear of tuberculosis vanished. I was made free, healthy, and strong. I have since had many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science; I have experienced protection from accidents and have found God to be an ever-present help.
