I wish to express my gratitude for the healing which brought me into Christian Science.
When I was about ten years of age, a woman lived in our neighborhood who was a student of Christian Science. She always spoke in such a loving manner that I was drawn to her. One day while her son and I were playing in her front yard, the boy was hurt. Somehow I got into the house with him. His mother gave him a Christian Science treatment aloud. I do not remember what she said, but she declared God's allness and His completeness and the impossibility of God's child being touched or hurt. I went around all day feeling as though something very special and wonderful had happened to me.
About a year later I was taken to a children's hospital where the best specialists could give me care. I had a condition called scoliosis. My spine was crooked, and one side of my back was developing while the other was not. I spent many months in this hospital on a frame. I was not able to bend my knees during that time because I had a fifteen-pound weight on each leg to straighten my spine. When these weights were removed, the nerves in the legs had died. I limped for many months and wore a heavy, complicated brace.
