At the time when Christian Science was first offered to me by a brother, the outlook seemed dark indeed. My husband had been ill with heart trouble for nearly six years and was unable to work. Our home had to be given up, and everything had to go, while we went to live with relatives in the country.
After my husband had received much medical treatment, which did him very little good, my brother lent me his copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and asked me to read it. I could not understand the textbook, but as I had promised, I kept on reading. After I had been reading for two weeks, my husband was offered a position in a distant town, but as he had to have a medical examination, we did not have much hope. Imagine our joy when the doctor said that my husband's health had improved so much that he could pass as a fit man. It was some time before I gave the reading of the textbook the credit for the wonderful help we had received.
Later on I was taken seriously ill with what the doctors called stomach ulcers. Although everything that medical science could offer was tried, I got rapidly worse and was passing on. Only then did Christian Science mean something to me, and I wrote to a practitioner for help, which was readily given, and slowly I gained strength. This dear woman helped us through her work in Christian Science to find a house and to establish a home in the town where my husband was working.
