In the spring of 1921 I had a complete breakdown while suffering from rheumatism. At the hot springs where I went for treatment I improved rapidly. In about a month I appeared to be cured, except for the arches of my feet. I stayed some time longer, trying to get a complete healing, but finally returned home, hoping that the arches would eventually become normal.
Shortly after arriving, I went to work again, but I could not walk without limping. One evening my employer told me of a healing he had had in Christian Science and recommended that I have a Christian Science practitioner explain Science to me. I finally decided to do this, although I was rather skeptical, for I had heard of Christian Science a number of times, but it had usually been ridiculed.
The practitioner told me many things, and when I arose to go, she handed me a small pamphlet, with the remark that if I was really interested, I might get some good out of it. I thanked her, took the pamphlet, and limped home. About half past seven I started to read it, and to my surprise, I found it very interesting.
