THE Master foretold "upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; . . . men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth." Yet with conviction and assurance he stated, "When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Luke 21:25, 26,28.)
In fulfilling their duty to God, to their Leader, and to mankind, as prescribed in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, Article VIII, Section 6, Christian Scientists have a vital role to play in the world's history today. They know the power of divine Mind; that Mind is God, hence all is Mind and there is but one Mind; and they know that this great truth is the exterminator of error. In obedience to Christ Jesus' injunction they look out upon the world situation from the standpoint of God's allness and omnipotence; they lift up their heads: that is, they watch their thinking that it be not manipulated by fear, by mesmeric suggestions, by evil foreboding, by duality or conflict, in other words, by "looking after those things which are coming on the earth."
In her "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says (p. 206): "The real Christian Scientist is constantly accentuating harmony in word and deed, mentally and orally, perpetually repeating this diapason of heaven: 'Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love.'" This does not mean that he merely repeats these words, but rather that he understanding' abides in fervent realization of the allness and infinitude of God, good, of universal Love. He does not invite evil by prophesying it, fearing it, or admitting it. He knows that nothing exists but God and His idea, and he rejoices in the present opportunity to demonstrate this fact.
