Testimonies of Healing

My gratitude goes out to God for the...

From the November 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude goes out to God for the precious gift which Mary Baker Eddy gave to the world in her revelation of Christian Science. Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church has been a great help to me in many ways. The statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," has been proved true so many times by Christian Scientists that it is easy to understand why a great number of our branch churches have this quotation imprinted on their walls. It is an assurance of God's goodness and availability.

During the fall of 1933, the West Coast appealed so much to me that I was willing to give up steady employment, home, and lifelong friends to go there. My savings were enough to care for necessary needs for about three months. Before I left home, a member of the branch church of which I was also a member gave me a letter of introduction to a friend of hers and asked me to look up another acquaintance, and the president of the church gave me the name of one of her friends.

This was during a time when there seemed to be much unemployment and depression. A cousin, who I did not know was in the city, called me, and I found to my surprise that she was working for the man I was referred to by the church president. I was reluctant to use the letter of introduction, and an attempt was made Wednesday evening to make the acquaintance of one who, I was told, belonged to the church I was to attend. This was the largest Christian Science church in the state, and there were many people present. A woman taking subscriptions for the Christian Science periodicals attracted my attention. I introduced myself to her, and to my joy she was the person to whom the letter of introduction was addressed.
