When I was about six years old I had my first Christian Science treatment, although it was several years before I knew what it was that had healed me. A woman who was a Christian Scientist asked permission of my mother to take me home with her for a few weeks. This woman had a little daughter about my age, and when the two of us were out gathering wild flowers one day, a rainstorm appeared and our clothing and feet were wet. I was supposed to be subject to croup whenever I got cold or had wet feet.
That night the trouble manifested itself severely. This Christian Scientist with whom I was staying asked an older sister of mine for consent to work for me through prayer. In a short time I was sleeping peacefully, and never again did I have an attack of the croup. I was told that God had healed me, and I was very grateful.
About ten years afterwards a sister was healed of dyspepsia. She was like the woman whom Christ Jesus healed, who "had suffered many things of many physicians, . . . and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse" (Mark 5:26). She too touched the hem of Christ's garment and was healed.
