About thirty years ago I was healed of arthritis in its early stages, chronic indigestion, catarrh, and a condition of the eyelids for which I had constantly used an ointment. All these healings were brought about solely through the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I did not know of Christian Science churches or of Christian Science practitioners.
At first I found the textbook difficult to understand, because unconsciously I tried to make the statements I read there fit in with what I already thought. When I realized what I was doing, and became ready to accept what this book had to teach me, the light began to dawn.
The arthritis was the last to be healed, because I was more fearful about that and kept watching the physical condition instead of watching my thoughts; but the healing came when I glimpsed what Mrs. Eddy means where she says (Science and Health, p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." I was in pain and turned to the textbook, opening it at random, and the above sentence arrested my attention. I suddenly saw that I was suffering from a false belief. This destroyed the fear, and I arose healed. The other conditions disappeared as I studied and ceased using material remedies, but it was not until some time later that I realized that I was not being troubled by them. All this happened within six or seven months after I turned to Christian Science for healing.
