Testimonies of Healing

From the February 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a humble heart that I add my contribution to the many wonderful testimonies appearing in the Christian Science periodicals, which have never failed to help, encourage, and strengthen me. I did not come into Science for a physical healing, although I seemed to have a great many ills. I was so fearful and apprehensive that I was loath to leave the house even for a few hours, lest when I went back I should find that something terrible had happened during my absence. If my children sneezed or coughed, I invariably feared the worst for them and was continually seeking medical advice and trying new medicines. I am learning through Science that "God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 471).

My blessings have been many, and I am particularly grateful for the following experience. Three years ago I left the Far East, where we had been living for a long time, to come back home and see my three sons, whom I had not seen for a good many years. My husband decided to stay behind to rebuild his business, and we also thought it would be easier for him to find work and lodging alone. After a while I was shocked to hear he had been put in a hospital, and I was told that I should have him come home as soon as possible. At the time, this move seemed absolutely impossible, as I had no means of getting together enough money for his passage. The people who were looking after him were not Christian Scientists, and for what seemed to be a very long time it was difficult to secure a Christian Science practitioner to work for him.

The helpful thought that nothing can ever separate us from infinite Love gave me strength and courage not to give in to the frightening picture. However, error was trying to whisper to me that most probably I would never see my husband again and that he would go insane. Finally I was able to secure absent treatment for him, and very shortly afterward some friends succeeded in getting him out of the hospital and took him by car on a long journey to a relative's home in a southern city. They were not Scientists, however, and were trying to help him through medical means. I wrote and requested that a Christian Science practitioner be asked to work for my husband. Eventually this kind relative complied with my request.
