There is never a moment when God is not All-in-all—all presence, all power, all knowledge. The spiritually-minded feel the presence of divine Love because they know that Love is ever present under all circumstances. Conviction of the inadequacy of material means of defense and confidence in God’s power and ever-presence enabled the Psalmist to sing (Ps. 20:7), “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”
Reliance on material wealth, modern armaments, and able diplomacy is inadequate to solve the problems confronting us in the world situation. We need strong defenses and competent statesmen, but above all we need a deep and settled conviction that Spirit, God, is All-in-all. We need to realize that the Christ is speaking with divine authority through the councils of all nations and that the government of God is the government under which we live.
The establishment on earth of this truth may not come without a struggle, for to the materialistic thinker trusting in material force alone such statements may seem chimerical. The world is faced with a mental conflict of unprecedented intensity. Never before have the old material ways of life been so fiercely challenged. Without the understanding of Christian Science the struggle for freedom would be long and hard and possibly unsuccessful. But there is a solution. Christian Scientists, working and praying on the mental battleground, discern the unreality of evil and the allness of God, good, and see the hosts of error, fear, sin, hypnotism, and mesmerism over-taken, arrested, disarmed, and destroyed by the Christ.
