I am grateful that I was brought up according...

From the March 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am grateful that I was brought up according to the teachings of Christian Science and attended the Sunday School until I was twenty years of age. When I was a young child, I broke my leg in two places. My mother was told by a doctor that I would be a cripple for life. Christian Science healed this condition, and there is no defect in my walking.

I am very grateful for the blessed privilege of serving as Second Reader in our Christian Science Society. One Thursday morning I was too ill to get out of bed. I was suffering from tonsillitis, and when Saturday came and I was no better, I asked for help from a practitioner, which was lovingly given. During the afternoon the practitioner came to see me. I had felt that it would be impossible for me to take my place as Second Reader the next morning. Before the practitioner left, however, I realized that nothing is impossible to God, and I was encouraged.

Before going to bed in the evening I opened Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to page 385 and read, "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." For a long time I thought about these words and about what the practitioner had told me, and then I fell asleep. In the morning when I awakened, I did not seem much better and felt I should have to stay in bed; then I was again reminded of Mrs. Eddy's statement just quoted. I arose immediately and was at my place as usual and was very quickly healed. This healing inspired and strengthened me.
