Testimonies of Healing

As a child I plied my Sunday School...

From the September 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a child I plied my Sunday School teachers and my minister with questions about the healings of Christ Jesus. Disappointment followed disappointment as I received no satisfying answers. I was told that the works of' the Master were miraculous, that they could never be explained and so must simply be accepted on faith.

Later, as a young mother who had received treatment from many physicians without gaining health, I found Christian Science. I was interested in it only as a religion, having heard nothing of its healing power. I purchased a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and studied it diligently, finding immediate answers to all of my questions.

My joy knew no bounds when I began to discern something of the allness of our Father-Mother God and of my perfection as His child, made in His image and likeness. The medicines in our bathroom cabinet suddenly seemed useless and ridiculous idols, and I threw them all out, determined to worship God with all my heart and mind. My gratitude to God for my newfound understanding of Him was sufficient to completely eliminate from my experience two diseases. One of them was acute tonsillitis, for which an operation was deemed necessary, and the other was a condition of intestinal inactivity that had been called incurable. These healings occurred over twenty-eight years ago, and there has never been a return of either discord.
