CHRISTIAN SCIENCE AND TRUE NEIGHBORLINESS

From the September 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is All, therefore He includes all that really exists. Man, as the expression of the divine allness, can never be isolated from God, divine Mind. Man is one with God in the same sense that the idea is always one with the Mind which conceives it and cannot be a solitary idea divorced from the source of its eternal identity. The coexistence of God and His universe as Mind and its idea constitutes the oneness of the universe of Spirit, the All-in-all of good. The perception of the real universe as a spiritually mental realm enables mankind to demonstrate the reality of the kingdom of God, which Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, declared lies within us, within real consciousness, or selfhood.

In the Sermon on the Mount the beloved Master illustrated to his followers in all ages how to live with one's neighbor; thus the divine demand to love one's neighbor as oneself may be obeyed and practically fulfilled in all human experience. Again, Jesus showed his unceasing concern for the welfare of mankind when he prayed thus (John 17:15): "I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil."

Christian Science, which is based on the teachings and works of Christ Jesus, reveals the Principle and rule which afford proof of mankind's protection from the evil influences and spurious beliefs so rampant in the world today. With Christlike consideration for all earnest seekers of Truth, Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 451): "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must renounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power. Christianity, with the crown of Love upon her brow, must be their queen of life."
