RIGHT reasoning, resulting from the spiritual understanding of divine logic, is essential in demonstrating the healing power of Christian Science. The difference between reasoning based upon true logic —Jesus' theology, which Christian Science teaches—and the false reasoning of the senses is that right reasoning promotes spiritual understanding and therefore, logically, dishonors human belief. Human belief, to support itself, must have gods many. It has ever been an idolater. Belief in minds many refutes the one Mind. This is Babel, confusion resulting from false knowledge built on the evidence obtained from the physical senses.
Every form of error stems from the false premise that matter exists and that there are two powers, matter and Spirit. Material so-called power is unlike God; therefore, being opposite to good, it must be evil. The power of Spirit is conceded to be good. From these separate entities and powers in belief comes forth mankind, which manifests the delusions of evil, sickness, mortality, as well as certain elements of good. It is necessary to handle the falsities and ignorance arising from incorrect reasoning, which keep mankind under bondage to the delusion of the senses, and to cherish every evidence of good.
Liberation can come only through right reasoning based on a correct spiritual premise and carried through to the divinely logical conclusion of scientific demonstration. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Reason, rightly directed, serves to correct the errors of corporeal sense." This, we learn, characterizes Christian Science treatment. The Christian Scientist brings to bear upon the material beliefs which produce the discords and ills of the flesh the right reasoning that we are assured corrects "the errors of corporeal sense."
