"Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Cor. 6:20), These words of Paul's filled my thought when I was suffering from the severe pain of a scalded wrist and hand. I earnestly desired to glorify God through an instantaneous healing. Going to my room I thought about the loving presence and all-power of God. Very soon the pain suddenly ceased, and there remained only a peaceful, calm realization of healing and joy. My gratitude is very deep, for this healing was outstanding to me. Many other proofs of God's power have been experienced in our family through the truth taught in Christian Science, the religion of Love, which our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, so unselfishly labored to give to the world.
One such proof was the healing of bronchitis, which had appeared in periods attacks since my childhood, becoming more and more distressing. The help of a Christian Science practitioner was requested, and I made an earnest effort to understand better the nature of God and of man in His likeness. Working to realize my freedom as a child of God, spiritual and whole, I refuted the suggestion that atmospheric conditions had any power to affect my well-being or that of anyone. I realized that since God is everywhere present, man can dwell only in the atmosphere of good. Watching to see that my mental atmosphere was kept pure, I prayed (Ps. 19:14), "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." I was also helped by Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 4), "What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds." The healing came, and no words are adequate to express my deep gratitude, for the healing has been permanent.
In our family we have experienced healings of broken bones and illnesses of various names, and strained relationships have been harmoniously adjusted through the truth. When loved ones passed on, the sense of loss and grief was healed through the patient help of a practitioner, who helped me to see that life is never in matter and that man can never lose his Life, which is God. 1 studied our Leader's words in Science and Health (p. 258): "Never born and never dying, it were impossible for man, under the government of God in eternal Science, to fall from his high estate," and I saw that my loved ones could be experiencing only continuing life and gaining greater freedom and dominion over false beliefs. This realization removed the sting of death from my consciousness and brought peace.
