To this age the second coming of Christ has appeared to human consciousness as the Comforter, which Jesus foretold would come and "teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26). The revelation of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy has brought to the apprehension of all mankind the spiritual interpretation of the Holy Scriptures through which everyone, from the least even unto the greatest, may understand and demonstrate practical Christianity and its healing art as practiced in the time of Christ Jesus. The great Way-shower, who healed all manner of disease through applied spiritual law, and who prophesied (John 14:12). "He that believeth on me the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do,'' left the promise and the manner of its fulfillment in these words (John 13:7): "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
It is true that Christ Jesus healed disease and sin instantaneously. Mortal bodies were released from pain, deformity, and disability. The blind saw, the deaf heard, and the lame walked, all of which verified the purpose of his mission; namely, to demonstrate for all mankind the supremacy of Spirit over matter and the power of the ever-present Christ to take away the sins of the world and so also destroy sickness and death.
The coming of the Comforter, or Christian Science, revealing creation as spiritual and man and the universe as evolved by Mind, and not by matter, gives the scientific explanation of divine healing based upon an exact Principle and given rule. The Science of Christianity purges human consciousness of belief in the beguiling lie of material sense and ushers into view the spiritual man whom God creates in His own likeness.
