Testimonies of Healing

I feel that the sharing of my gratitude...

From the October 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I feel that the sharing of my gratitude for Christian Science is long overdue, since the truths of this beautiful religion have blessed me so bountifully. Of my recent experiences, the one for which I am most grateful is the healing of grief at the time of my father's parsing. During the reading from the Bible and Science and Health b Mrs. Eddy at the memorial service, I was almost startled by the suddenness with which all weeping ceased around me.

The following passage from Science and Health was very illuminating (p. 246): "Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight." The thought which struck home to me was that all the goodness and love for others which my father had expressed could not be limited, for these qualities were as eternal as their origin, God. I knew then that Dad was in the living presence and loving care of the one true Father, and I felt a great peace. The healing was so complete that since that time I have not even had the desire to shed a tear.

Since then I was healed of influenza in a very short time. While at work one day I began feeling the different symptoms of the disease; so before retiring that night I wrote down many truths that I had learned and proved in Christian Science. After I retired, the symptoms became worse. I struggled for an hour, silently and audibly repeating verses from the Bible, such as those in the twenty-third Psalm, and statements from Science and Health, including this one p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good." Finally, when I became so feverish that I thought I had better call for help from a practitioner, this Bible verse, like a still small voice, kept coming to me, excluding all else (Ps. 46: 10): "Be still, and know that I am God." I became at peace and dropped to sleep. In the morning I awoke refreshed and strong and had one of my best days at: work.
