Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science was introduced into...

From the November 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was introduced into our family in the 1880's. Before his marriage my father lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for a time, and on several occasions he heard Mary Baker Eddy preach in Chickering Hall. He also witnessed healings resulting from Christian Science treatment. It was only natural that a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, should be sent to two members of his family in the Midwest who were suffering from cancer, which the medical profession had pronounced incurable. By reading the textbook both were healed, and they became pioneer Christian Scientists in their community.

During my school years I experienced a number of healings. Self-consciousness had kept me from a place on the high school debating team. About this time I began to think seriously of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. I was told that such membership meant a willingness to accept larger responsibilities and to meet manfully and joyously every challenge of mortal mind. The belief of self-consciousness vanished, and I was able to participate in the debating work happily and freely. Not long afterward I was grateful to be accepted as a member of The Mother Church and a branch church. While I was in college, concern about examinations was eliminated, and my financial needs were met continually. On one occasion a complication of diseases brought the last enemy very near and left me unable to walk for some time. With the loving help of a practitioner, a complete healing was experienced, and I resumed my college work as well as ever.

After I had class instruction in Christian Science a steady improvement took place in my affairs, and this unfoldment of good continues today. Business problems have been solved, numerous instances of protection have been mine, and many inharmonious physical conditions have been healed. Many of the healings have been instantaneous, but one that means a great deal to me required much persistent effort. While working at home a few years ago I lost control of a power tool and was struck violently in the lower section of the abdomen. I declared the truth, but in a hurried and even impatient manner, and continued with my task.
