Testimonies of Healing

I wish to relate an outstanding case of...

From the March 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to relate an outstanding case of healing which occurred through the application of Christian Science when my daughter was seven years old. She and one of her friends were playing with Christmas decorations in the basement of our home. They lighted some candles, and my daughter's clothing caught fire. When I heard her terrifying screams I ran to see what was wrong and found the child's clothing in flames. I began to fight the fire with my hands, but saw the futility of this; so I snatched a couch cover nearby and wrapped it around her body, smothering out the flames. Trembling with fear, I turned completely to God. Then I ran to the telephone and called a practitioner for help, which was immediately given. The practitioner came to the house and sat at the child's bedside, prayerfully working for her. During the treatment the child fell asleep, and when she awoke the pain had gone. She called for her dolls and played with them for several hours. She never again suffered any pain from the burns.

The injury had to be bandaged, and this required much painstaking skill, as about one fourth of the child's body was seared, in some places to the bone. Another practitioner had come to the house to help my mother, who had been greatly disturbed by the accident, and when she learned of our need she lovingly offered her assistance in bandaging the wound. The nearness of God and His tender mercy were proved by the child's complete freedom from pain. The first night after the accident she was restless, but was able to get some sleep. Although I was awake all night, every minute I was grateful to God that the child's life had been spared and that we were being sustained.

Christian Science gave us much needed comfort and courage to carry on during this difficult period. We relied entirely on the power of Truth, at no time using any medical remedies. The good work was continued by the practitioner, who upheld us with words of comfort, which sustained us until the healing was accomplished.
